The funeral ceremony for Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, is being held in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that approximately one thousand people gathered for the ceremony, carrying Iranian flags and portraits of Tangsiri to honor the high-ranking military official.
According to official reports, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mujtaba Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed their condolences on Monday following the confirmation of Tangsiri's death. The ceremony follows claims made by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on March 26, asserting that the IRGC Navy commander was killed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The IRGC Navy, which Tangsiri commanded, plays a critical role in Iran's military strategy, particularly in overseeing operations in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. This strategic waterway is vital for global energy supplies, as a significant portion of the world's oil passes through it. The death of such a high-ranking commander marks a significant development in the ongoing regional tensions between Iran and Israel, which have seen an escalation in targeted operations and maritime security incidents in recent years.
