A fire broke out on the ground floor of a three-story residential building located on Yusif Mammadaliyev Street in the Sabail district of Baku. The incident prompted an immediate response from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Colonel Ilgar Nasibov, head of the firefighting headquarters of the State Fire Protection Service of the MES, stated that the fire affected an area of approximately 120 square meters. He noted that because the building is a historic structure, its internal partitions are made of wooden materials, which complicated firefighting efforts.
Six residents were successfully evacuated from the building during the operation. One elderly citizen required medical attention, though officials confirmed there is no threat to their life. The firefighting operation involved 12 units of equipment and 62 personnel, who managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
The Sabail district, where the incident occurred, is located in the heart of Baku and is known for its dense concentration of historic architecture, much of which dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These older buildings often feature wooden structural elements, which pose specific challenges for fire safety and emergency response teams. The Ministry of Emergency Situations frequently conducts awareness campaigns and safety drills in such areas to mitigate risks associated with aging infrastructure in the capital.
