Finnish President Alexander Stubb has disclosed his involvement in behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing European Pravda, Stubb stated that he currently serves as an information conduit between Kyiv and Washington. The Finnish leader emphasized that his role is primarily discreet, focusing on facilitating the exchange of critical information between the two capitals.
Stubb expressed readiness to participate in information exchanges with Russia should the necessity arise. He identified the United States as a key participant in the negotiation process but stressed that European nations must also be actively involved in decisions regarding Ukraine's future. Furthermore, the President did not rule out the possibility of acting as a mediator in potential negotiations with Russia, noting that he would consider such a mission if formally proposed, though he believes a unified team approach remains more realistic.
Finland, which shares a long border with Russia, has significantly shifted its security policy in recent years, culminating in its accession to NATO. The country has become a vocal supporter of Ukraine, with President Stubb previously asserting that European Union membership remains one of the most viable paths forward for Kyiv to ensure long-term security and stability following the conflict.
