The consequences of the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the Philippines on June 8 remain severe.

According to the latest report released by the country's Office of Civil Defense (OCD), as cited by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the death toll from the natural disaster has reached 61.

Official figures indicate that 1,221 people sustained injuries of varying severity during the earthquake. Furthermore, the fate of 33 individuals remains unknown, and search and rescue operations are ongoing to locate them. Local authorities have intensified efforts to find those trapped under the rubble.

Technical data provided by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) indicates that the tremors were recorded 26 kilometers southwest of the Kablalan district in the Soccsksargen region of Sarangani province. The earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 55.2 kilometers.

It should be noted that the Philippines is situated within the "Pacific Ring of Fire," a region characterized by high seismic and volcanic activity, making powerful earthquakes a frequent occurrence in the archipelago.
