The European Commission is preparing to tighten the overall EU visa policy this autumn.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, a diplomatic source in Brussels informed TASS about the upcoming changes.
The report indicates that the new measures primarily involve the introduction of stricter criteria for visa denials based on security concerns, specifically targeting citizens of Russia, Belarus, and Iran.
"The European Commission has informed EU countries that it will present proposals this autumn to tighten the EU visa policy for third countries based on security threats. According to the European Commission, this proposal will include new criteria for refusing visas to citizens of countries that pose a threat to public security," the source noted.
According to the source, while the new measures are initially intended to apply to citizens of Russia, Belarus, and Iran, the list of affected countries could potentially be expanded in the future. The European Union has been progressively adjusting its border and migration policies in recent years to address evolving geopolitical challenges and internal security requirements within the Schengen Area.
