The issue of holding early presidential elections is not on Türkiye's political agenda. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made this statement during an address to the nation following a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
The announcement comes in response to frequent calls from Ozgur Ozel, the chairman of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), for early polls. However, President Erdogan emphasized that the government remains focused on its current mandate, confirming that the next presidential elections are scheduled to take place in 2028 and no alternative plans exist.
"Neither mid-term nor early elections are on our agenda," the head of state noted.
Previously, Devlet Bahceli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and a key political ally of the Turkish leader, also stated that holding early elections would be impossible given the current regional situation. Türkiye's political system transitioned to a presidential form of government following a 2017 referendum, with the most recent general elections held in May 2023, where President Erdogan secured a new five-year term.
