The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan has approved, in the third reading, amendments to the Law on Efficient Use of Energy Resources and Energy Efficiency.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the legislative amendments were drafted to facilitate the financing of the Energy Efficiency Information System. This includes the implementation, maintenance, and creation of subsystems as outlined in Article 4-1 of the law. Furthermore, the funding will cover information support and awareness-raising measures stipulated in Article 18, as well as the acquisition of software necessary for accounting operations related to the activities of the Energy Efficiency Fund.
Consequently, the financial requirements for these initiatives will now be covered by the resources of the Energy Efficiency Fund.
The legislation is designed to establish a stable financial mechanism for the sustainable and long-term implementation of energy efficiency awareness campaigns. These efforts aim to promote responsible energy consumption, increase public awareness, introduce modern communication tools, and foster a culture of energy conservation across Azerbaijan.
The Regulation on the Energy Efficiency Information System was approved by a Cabinet of Ministers decree on June 9, 2026. Currently, technical and institutional work regarding the system is being finalized, with the process of data collection and entry being implemented in stages.
Energy efficiency has become a cornerstone of Azerbaijan's national strategy as the country transitions toward a greener economy, aiming to optimize resource management and reduce the carbon footprint of its industrial and residential sectors.
