In the year following the historic peace summit held at the White House, Azerbaijan and Armenia have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to achieving a lasting peace and have taken concrete steps in this direction.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that US Chargé d'Affaires in Azerbaijan Amy Carlon stated this in a video message released by the US Embassy in Azerbaijan on the anniversary of the August 8, 2025, Washington summit.
The diplomat recalled that one year ago, US President Donald Trump hosted President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia at the White House. She noted that with the participation of the leaders at the summit, an agreement was initialed that laid the foundation for a sustainable peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia following more than three decades of conflict.
"Since August 8, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the spirit of the White House summit and have taken decisive and concrete steps toward a solid peace," Carlon said.
She noted that over the past year, regular contacts and exchanges of ideas have begun between civil society representatives of the two countries. Furthermore, initial signs of cross-border trade have been observed, including Armenia's regular purchase of Azerbaijani fuel.
Carlon also highlighted the TRIPP project (Trump Route), calling it one of the key elements of the August 8 agreement. "This route will provide Azerbaijan with unimpeded access to Nakhchivan and will contribute to the integration and development of East-West transport connectivity, ensuring mutual economic benefits and prosperity for Azerbaijan and the entire region," she stated.
According to the diplomat, the TRIPP project has made significant progress over the past year, and this process is expected to accelerate in the coming year.
Touching upon US-Azerbaijan relations, Carlon noted that on August 8, President Trump and President Ilham Aliyev also signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at elevating bilateral relations to a new level. "This paved the way for the signing of the Strategic Partnership Charter between the US and Azerbaijan," she said.
Carlon emphasized that following the signing of the Charter, the US and Azerbaijan began its implementation, and in recent times, mutual visits by high-ranking government officials and private sector representatives have intensified significantly. She also reported that in June, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of critical minerals, held the first US-Azerbaijan economic dialogue, and US companies concluded commercial and investment agreements worth billions of dollars.
"This is just the beginning. There is still much work to be done. President Trump has clearly expressed the US commitment to peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus region, and the progress achieved in the last year shows what is possible when we work together. I am confident that in the coming years, our countries will achieve many more important results," the diplomat added.
The Washington summit of August 2025 remains a pivotal moment in regional diplomacy, marking a shift toward normalization and economic integration in the South Caucasus. The ongoing implementation of the agreements, particularly regarding transport corridors and strategic partnerships, underscores the evolving geopolitical landscape in the region.
