President Ilham Aliyev received the Prime Minister of the State of Palestine, Mohammad Mustafa, on July 16.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state expressed his confidence that Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa's visit to Azerbaijan will contribute to the strengthening of fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Palestine.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan's support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Expressing his honor to meet with the head of state, Mohammad Mustafa conveyed the greetings of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to President Ilham Aliyev.
The head of state expressed his gratitude for the greetings and asked to convey his own to Mahmoud Abbas. President Ilham Aliyev recalled with pleasure the visit of Mahmoud Abbas to Azerbaijan, as well as their meetings within the framework of international events.
Noting the difficult situation currently prevailing in Palestine, Mohammad Mustafa expressed hope that they would be able to overcome this situation with the help of friends. In this regard, he expressed his gratitude to the head of state for the support Azerbaijan has provided to Palestine, as well as for the intention to provide humanitarian support, including the construction of a secondary school in Palestine.
During the conversation, the opening of the Representative Office of Azerbaijan in the city of Ramallah and the coverage of the expenses of the Palestinian Embassy in Azerbaijan by the Azerbaijani state were assessed as indicators of the high level of bilateral relations.
The meeting recalled that as a result of the "Conference on the Establishment of the Islamic Financial Safety Net" and the "Donor Countries Conference for the Financing of the Sector Plan for the Development of the City of Jerusalem" hosted by Azerbaijan in 2013, Azerbaijan provided 5 million dollars in financial aid to Palestine. It was also emphasized that Azerbaijan provides assistance to Palestine through the UN agency UNRWA.
The fact that 37 Palestinian students are studying in Azerbaijan, including 23 through the "Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant," was highly appreciated. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the head of state for these initiatives.
During the discussion, the issue of exporting some Palestinian agricultural products to Azerbaijan under preferential terms was discussed, and an exchange of views took place on issues of mutual interest.
Azerbaijan has consistently maintained a balanced foreign policy, advocating for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in accordance with international law and UN resolutions, while actively supporting humanitarian efforts in the region.
