Jeyhun Bayramov meets UN Deputy Secretary-General in Baku

Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with a delegation led by United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed during her visit to Azerbaijan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) informed Operative Information Center-OMM that the meeting focused on the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN. The parties exchanged views on multilateral cooperation, the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate action, and initiatives for restoration and reconstruction in the post-conflict period.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan's contributions to the international peace, security, and sustainable development agenda. He emphasized the country's role in promoting regional cooperation and connectivity projects. Furthermore, the minister provided detailed information on the large-scale restoration and construction work being carried out in the liberated territories, as well as measures taken to ensure the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes.

The discussions also covered Azerbaijan's leading role in energy security and regional connectivity, including strategic relations with Central Asia. Amina Mohammed underscored the significance of the partnership between Azerbaijan and the UN, noting the importance of expanding cooperation in sustainable development, urban planning, the climate agenda, and humanitarian issues.

Azerbaijan has significantly increased its engagement with the United Nations in recent years, particularly through its hosting of major international events and its active role in the Non-Aligned Movement. The partnership remains a cornerstone of the country's foreign policy, focusing on regional stability and the integration of liberated lands into the national economy following the 2020 Patriotic War. The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
