President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan have discussed the future stages of the peace process during a meeting held in Bishkek.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing a statement released by the Armenian government, the parties emphasized the historical significance of the peace summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025.
It was noted that the joint declaration signed in the presence of US President Donald Trump during that summit, along with the initialing of the agreement on establishing peace between the two countries, forms the foundation of the current process.
During the meeting, the expansion of economic cooperation was also a key focus. The leaders assessed the export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, the transit of grain and other goods from third countries through Azerbaijani territory, and the establishment of direct trade relations between the two nations as essential steps toward consolidating peace. Furthermore, discussions included increasing contacts between business circles and exploring opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector.
The heads of state underscored the importance of continuing the activities of the commissions on border delimitation in accordance with existing agreements. Additionally, they reviewed practical steps and project initiatives within the framework of the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP), which is one of the outcomes of the Washington summit. The parties also positively evaluated contacts aimed at building confidence between parliamentarians and civil society representatives.
President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed to continue direct dialogue aimed at ensuring long-term peace, regulating interstate relations, and strengthening regional ties.
This meeting in Bishkek marks a significant continuation of the diplomatic momentum initiated in Washington. The ongoing normalization process between Baku and Yerevan is widely regarded as a critical development for stability in the South Caucasus, with international mediators closely monitoring the implementation of the agreed-upon peace roadmap.
