A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in China's southeastern Jiangxi province has resulted in one fatality, with 11 other individuals reported missing, according to local authorities.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Reuters, that the incident occurred following intense precipitation brought on by Typhoon Saudel, which severely impacted the city of Gaoping.
Local officials confirmed that the disaster caused significant damage to 12 residential properties. State broadcaster CCTV indicated that search and rescue teams are currently deployed at the site, with concerns that more than 10 people may remain trapped beneath the debris.
Landslides are a recurring natural hazard in mountainous regions of China, particularly during the typhoon season.
