China has officially called on the United Kingdom to immediately revoke sanctions imposed on Chinese companies, warning that it will take necessary measures to protect its national interests. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media reports, Beijing views these restrictive measures as a violation of international trade norms.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce of China emphasized that given the positive dynamics in China-UK relations, London should promptly correct its erroneous actions. The official stated that the UK must lift the sanctions against Chinese entities to avoid further escalation. "Normal cooperation between Chinese and Russian companies should not be interfered with by third parties," the spokesperson added, asserting that China will remain firm in safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of its enterprises.
The diplomatic tension follows the United Kingdom's recent expansion of its sanctions list targeting entities allegedly supporting Russia's military efforts. The updated list includes 39 companies from China, alongside 142 from the UAE, three from Thailand, and two from India. This move is part of a broader international trend where Western nations utilize economic sanctions as a tool of foreign policy, often leading to retaliatory trade measures and diplomatic friction between major global economies.
