The death toll from the devastating floods in Nepal has risen to 1,127 as of August 26, according to the latest data released by local authorities.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Nepal police have confirmed the fatalities, noting that the identities of 911 of the victims remain unverified at this time.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with 4,858 individuals currently reported missing. Among those missing, authorities have identified 261 foreign nationals from 23 different countries.
Meanwhile, China’s Xinhua news agency reported that traffic has resumed at the central section of the Gyirong border crossing in Tibet following several days of continuous repair work. Rescuers confirmed that humanitarian aid and essential rescue equipment have been successfully transported to the disaster zone on the other side of the road.
According to the latest regional government reports, a landslide at the border crossing resulted in 16 deaths and left 546 people missing. Nepal, situated in the Himalayas, is frequently prone to severe flooding and landslides during the monsoon season, which often causes significant infrastructure damage and loss of life across the region.
