Azerbaijan is set to introduce simplified customs clearance procedures for media materials, perishable goods, live animals, and various other categories of cargo imported into the country. This initiative aims to enhance trade efficiency and reduce administrative burdens for businesses.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this measure is outlined in a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev regarding the implementation of the law "On Amendments to the Customs Code."
Under the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers has been tasked with drafting and submitting simplified customs clearance rules to the head of state within six months. These regulations will cover a specific range of goods, including military equipment, items purchased for defense and national security needs, live animals, perishable goods, radioactive materials, and materials intended for media purposes (audiovisual, print, online media, and news agencies). Furthermore, the simplified procedures will apply to goods addressed to legislative, executive, and judicial authorities of Azerbaijan, as well as the Central Bank.
Additionally, the government will develop preferential and simplified customs control and clearance procedures for essential goods and vehicles required during pandemics, infectious disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and other emergency situations. These reforms are part of a broader strategy by the Azerbaijani government to modernize customs infrastructure, improve the business climate, and ensure the rapid delivery of critical supplies during both routine operations and crisis scenarios.
