Brüssel əhalisi 2025-ci ildə cəmi 39 nəfər artıb

According to official data released by the Belgian Statistical Office ("Statbel"), the total population of Belgium reached 11,867,634 as of January 1, 2026. Compared to the previous year, the country's population increased by 42,083, representing an annual growth rate of 0.36 percent.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the situation in the capital, Brussels, presents a stark contrast to the national trend.

The population of Brussels, which stood at 1,255,795 on January 1, 2025, increased by only 39 people by the beginning of 2026, reaching 1,255,834. This figure indicates a significant stagnation in population growth within the capital throughout 2025.

International migration has been the primary driver of population growth across the country. In 2025, Belgium experienced a negative natural growth rate, as the number of deaths exceeded the number of births. However, a positive net international migration balance of 47,562 people offset this decline, allowing for an overall increase in the total population.

Regional statistics reveal the following breakdown:

  • Flemish Region: Recorded the highest growth rate at 0.49 percent.
  • Walloon Region: The population increased by 0.23 percent.

Furthermore, the country continues to face an aging demographic. As of January 1, 2026, individuals aged 65 and over account for 20.67 percent of Belgium's total population. This demographic shift is a common trend across many European nations, often placing pressure on social security systems and labor markets, necessitating long-term policy adjustments regarding healthcare and pension sustainability.
