A new European Union (EU) Leaders' Summit is set to take place in Brussels, Belgium, bringing together the heads of state and government from the bloc's 27 member nations.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the meeting will be chaired by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa.
Key EU officials, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, are scheduled to attend the summit.
The program begins with an exchange of views between the leaders and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. Following this, the summit will proceed to a special session featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Discussions during this session will focus on the progress of Ukraine and Moldova in their EU accession processes, specifically addressing the opening of initial negotiation chapters.
Another critical item on the agenda involves the implementation of new sanctions against Russia. Furthermore, European leaders are expected to hold detailed deliberations on the continuation of financial and military support for Ukraine.
The European Council summits serve as the primary forum for setting the EU's overall political direction and priorities. These high-level meetings are instrumental in coordinating the bloc's response to geopolitical challenges, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the broader security architecture of the European continent.
