British Defense Secretary John Healey is scheduled to visit Cyprus on March 5 following recent security developments in the region.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media outlets, that the visit comes in the wake of a drone attack targeting a British military base in Cyprus on March 2. It was further noted that the British Royal Air Force has intercepted and destroyed several other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in recent days.

In response to the escalating situation, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the protection of British military bases and personnel would be elevated to the highest level. As part of these enhanced security measures, the United Kingdom will deploy the destroyer HMS Dragon to the region. The vessel is expected to depart from Portsmouth by next week.

The British sovereign base areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia in Cyprus serve as critical strategic hubs for UK operations in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. These installations provide vital support for regional stability, counter-terrorism efforts, and maritime security. The deployment of HMS Dragon, a Type 45 air defense destroyer, underscores London's commitment to safeguarding its strategic assets and personnel amid rising regional tensions.
