President of Albania Bajram Begaj made a phone call to President Ilham Aliyev on March 7 to express solidarity and discuss bilateral relations.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Press Service of the President of Azerbaijan, that during the conversation, President Bajram Begaj condemned the recent attack by Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the phone call and thanked the Albanian leader for his country's clear and resolute position regarding the incident. The heads of state highlighted the successful development of relations between Azerbaijan and Albania, noting that high-level mutual visits and continuous contacts have significantly contributed to the expansion of bilateral ties. The parties also exchanged views on various issues currently on the bilateral agenda.
Relations between Azerbaijan and Albania have intensified in recent years, particularly in the energy sector through the Southern Gas Corridor project. Albania remains a key partner for Azerbaijan in the Balkans, with both nations frequently supporting each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty within international organizations. This diplomatic outreach follows a pattern of increasing strategic cooperation between Baku and Tirana across economic and security spheres.
