The project to separate the lines of the Baku Metro is proceeding according to the approved schedule, with technical preparations for the physical separation of the tracks now underway.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing APA, that Bakhtiyar Mammadov, head of the public relations department of Baku Metro CJSC, confirmed the progress during a statement to journalists.
According to Mammadov, primary work on two preparation shafts located near the "28 May" and "Cafar Jabbarli" stations has been completed, and the project has moved to the stage of descending to the tunnel level. In the next phase, technical preparation for the physical separation of the lines has begun.

Bakhtiyar Mammadov stated that the work at the tunnel level will be carried out using specialized construction technologies. The goal is to ensure full safety while completing the project in the shortest possible technical timeframe. It was noted that, as previously announced, the physical separation of the metro lines is expected to take a total of 11 months.
The separation of the Red and Green lines at the "28 May" hub is a critical infrastructure project aimed at increasing train frequency and reducing passenger congestion. Currently, the intersection of these lines creates a bottleneck in the capital's underground transport system. By creating independent movement for both lines, the Baku Metro aims to modernize its operations in line with the Baku Master Plan, which envisions a significant expansion of the city's rail network to accommodate the growing population of the capital.
As part of the project, the construction of a new pedestrian tunnel between the "28 May" and "Cafar Jabbarli" stations is also planned.
Work has already started on the construction of a counterpart to the existing tunnel that provides access to the "Cafar Jabbarli" station, with excavation currently in progress. In the future, this tunnel will serve as a convenient pedestrian crossing for passengers.

According to Mammadov, the relocation of communication lines is currently being carried out at the turnaround chamber being built near the "Icherisheher" station.
Emphasizing that these works require high precision, the official stated that the main priority is to avoid damaging residential buildings, facilities, and other infrastructure in the surrounding area.
It was noted that geological surveys were conducted in the area before the start of work, and inspections were carried out with the participation of representatives from relevant agencies. Currently, all work continues according to the established regulations and the general plan in Azerbaijan.
