Officers from the Main Department for Combating Narcotics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) continue to conduct targeted operations to prevent the illegal circulation and sale of narcotic substances across Azerbaijan.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the MIA Press Service, a 26-year-old individual identified as Nijat Hasanov was apprehended during a recent operation in Baku. Authorities discovered and seized 51 kilograms of marijuana laced with harmful additives, along with 2,000 psychotropic methadone pills, in his possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Hasanov had been organizing the illegal distribution of narcotics within the country under the direction of foreign drug traffickers. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, and a court has ordered Hasanov to be held in pre-trial detention.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs regularly conducts such operations as part of the broader national strategy to combat drug trafficking. These efforts are critical in maintaining public safety and curbing the influence of transnational criminal networks that attempt to utilize Azerbaijan as a transit or distribution point for illicit substances. Investigations into the case are currently ongoing.
