Four individuals suspected of conducting espionage activities on behalf of Iran have been arrested in Bahrain. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the official statement regarding the arrests was released by the Ministry of Interior of Bahrain.
The General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science detained four Bahraini citizens and identified a fifth suspect currently hiding abroad. All individuals are suspected of collaborating with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Investigations revealed that one of the detainees, acting under instructions from the organization and with the assistance of others, used high-quality photographic equipment to record coordinates and images of strategically important facilities within Bahrain. This intelligence was subsequently transmitted to the IRGC using encrypted software, leading to the initiation of a formal criminal case.
The arrests come amid heightened regional tensions following the commencement of military operations against Iran by the United States and Israel on February 28. These operations resulted in the deaths of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials. In response, Iran has targeted locations in Israel as well as countries hosting US and allied military bases, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus. Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy's 5th Fleet, remains a critical security focal point in the Persian Gulf, often facing internal security challenges linked to foreign intelligence networks.
