Azerbaijan intends to introduce a visa-free regime for all citizens of Japan, a move aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and people-to-people ties.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, which cited information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan on social media, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov announced the decision following talks with his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, in Tokyo.
"Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan intends to implement a visa-free regime for all Japanese citizens visiting the country. He characterized this initiative as a significant step toward facilitating travel, strengthening business exchanges, promoting tourism, and deepening interpersonal connections between the two nations," the statement noted.
The Japanese side welcomed Azerbaijan's decision to unilaterally implement a visa-free regime for Japanese citizens for a period of one year. Both parties confirmed their commitment to facilitating reciprocal visits for their citizens in the future.
The MFA reported that the meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Azerbaijan and Japan to further strengthen their partnership and explore new areas of cooperation in the coming years. Both sides noted that the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which will be celebrated in 2027, will serve as an excellent opportunity to highlight the achievements of bilateral cooperation and define ambitious future goals.
This initiative is part of Azerbaijan's broader strategy to enhance its international profile and attract more tourists and investors from East Asia. By simplifying entry procedures, Baku aims to foster deeper economic and cultural integration with Japan, a key partner in the region known for its advanced technology and investment potential.
