The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan has officially approved the establishment of an embassy in Portugal. The decision was finalized during today’s session of the parliament's extraordinary session, according to the Operative Information Center-OMM.

Under the approved legislation, the new diplomatic mission will be located in Lisbon. During the parliamentary discussions, Member of Parliament Samir Valiyev emphasized that the move is expected to significantly strengthen the existing friendly relations between the two nations and provide a substantial boost to inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Samad Seyidov, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee on International Relations and Inter-parliamentary Ties, noted the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, adding that Portugal is also expected to launch its own embassy in Baku in the near future.

The establishment of these embassies follows diplomatic correspondence between the two heads of state. In a congratulatory letter sent to President Ilham Aliyev on June 5, Portuguese President António José Seguro highlighted that the opening of embassies in both Baku and Lisbon would serve as a vital contribution to the development of bilateral ties between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Portuguese Republic.

The bill was adopted in a single reading following the parliamentary debate.
