Azerbaijan has officially authorized the entry and exit of its citizens and foreign nationals with visa-free access via rail transport between Azerbaijan and Georgia, effective from 00:00 on May 25.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Prime Minister Ali Asadov has signed a decree to this effect.
Under the decree, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Customs Committee, the State Border Service, the State Migration Service, and Azerbaijan Railways CJSC are tasked with resolving all necessary logistical and legal matters in accordance with national legislation.
Azerbaijan and Georgia have reached an agreement to resume daily passenger train services on the Baku-Tbilisi-Baku route starting May 26. According to the preliminary agreement between Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) and Georgian Railway JSC, trains will depart from Baku daily at 23:10, arriving in Tbilisi at 08:41 the following day. Return services will depart from Tbilisi at 21:00 and arrive in Baku at 06:24 the next morning.
The Baku-Tbilisi-Baku route will include stops at Baku Railway Station, Bilajari, Yevlax, Ganja, Agstafa, and Boyuk Kasik stations within Azerbaijan, and Gardabani station and Tbilisi Railway Station in Georgia. Ticket prices for the journey from Baku to Tbilisi are set at 81 manats.
The restoration of rail links marks a significant step in regional connectivity between the two South Caucasus neighbors. Historically, the Baku-Tbilisi rail line has served as a vital artery for tourism and trade, fostering economic ties and people-to-people exchanges. This move follows a period of restricted land border movement and aligns with Azerbaijan's strategic goals to enhance its position as a regional transport and logistics hub.
