New freight train departs Azerbaijan for Armenia: Details of the shipment

A significant shipment of diesel fuel and Russian fertilizer has been dispatched from Azerbaijan to Armenia as part of ongoing regional trade and transit operations.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that a train consisting of 22 wagons loaded with 1,298 tons of diesel fuel and 4 wagons carrying 240 tons of fertilizer departed from the Bilajari station of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC. The cargo is headed toward the Boyuk Kasik station and will reach Armenia via transit through the territory of Georgia.

Overview of fuel and transit volumes to Armenia

This latest shipment follows a previous delivery on April 11, when 15 tank wagons carrying 887 tons of diesel were sent from Azerbaijan to Armenia. To date, total exports from Azerbaijan to Armenia include 6,312 tons of diesel, 979 tons of AI-92 gasoline, and 2,955 tons of AI-95 gasoline.

In addition to direct exports, Azerbaijan has facilitated the transit of goods from Russia to Armenia, including 23.9 thousand tons of grain, over 1,100 tons of fertilizer, and 68 tons of buckwheat. The export of fuel to Armenia originally commenced on December 18, 2025, with an initial delivery of 1,220 tons of AI-95 motor fuel.

Lifting of transit restrictions and regional context

The resumption of these shipments follows a landmark decision by President Ilham Aliyev in October 2025 to lift restrictions on the transit of goods from Azerbaijan to Armenia, which had been in place since the period of occupation. This move is seen as a significant step toward the normalization of regional economic ties and the establishment of sustainable logistics corridors in the South Caucasus.

The ongoing energy and agricultural shipments reflect a shift in regional dynamics, emphasizing the role of Azerbaijan as a central logistics hub. By facilitating both direct exports and international transit, Baku continues to integrate regional infrastructure, ensuring the flow of essential commodities across borders in accordance with the principles of territorial integrity and national interest.
