Azerbaijan is set to prepare proposals for accession to several conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), marking a significant step in the country's commitment to international labor standards.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, this initiative is outlined in the Action Plan for the implementation of the Employment Strategy for 2026-2030, which was approved by a decree from President Ilham Aliyev.
The document specifies that the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population will develop proposals for accession to ILO Conventions No. 184, 190, and 191 between 2027 and 2030. This move is part of a broader effort to modernize Azerbaijan's labor market regulations and ensure they align with global best practices.
It should be noted that ILO Convention No. 184 (2001) concerns safety and health in agriculture, establishing minimum international standards to protect workers in the agricultural sector. Convention No. 190 (2019) addresses violence and harassment in the world of work, serving as the first international treaty dedicated to preventing violence and harassment, including gender-based violence, in labor relations. Furthermore, Convention No. 191 (2023) focuses on a safe and healthy working environment, introducing technical amendments to previous conventions to incorporate these principles into the ILO's framework of fundamental labor rights.
The adoption of these conventions underscores Azerbaijan's ongoing efforts to enhance social protection mechanisms and improve working conditions for its citizens, reflecting the state's strategic focus on sustainable human capital development.
