The final Night of Destiny (Laylat al-Qadr) of the holy month of Ramadan is being observed in Azerbaijan tonight.

The Operative Information Center-OMM notes that according to Islamic tradition, the Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad in its entirety during the Night of Destiny, while its gradual revelation occurred over a period of 23 years.

When will Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr) be celebrated?

The 1st of Shawwal, which falls on March 20, will mark the beginning of Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr) in Azerbaijan. According to a decree by the Cabinet of Ministers, March 20 and 21 are designated as official public holidays in Azerbaijan to celebrate the occasion.

Virtues of the Night of Destiny: Why it is better than a thousand months

In Islamic faith, the Night of Destiny is the holiest night of the year, marking the first revelation of the Holy Quran. The significance of this night is explicitly mentioned in the Quran, where it is described as being better than a thousand months.

Muslims believe that prayers and acts of worship performed during this night are more readily accepted by Allah, and doors of divine mercy are opened for the forgiveness of sins. Traditionally, this night falls on one of the odd-numbered nights of the last ten days of Ramadan. Because the exact date is not specified, believers dedicate these final days to intensive prayer and spiritual reflection.

Meritorious deeds during the holy month

During the holy month of Ramadan, a period characterized by mercy and compassion, organizing iftar tables, engaging in charity, and providing assistance to those in need—including orphans, the elderly, and the underprivileged—are considered highly virtuous acts.

Reciting the Quran, caring for parents, honoring the memory of the deceased, and engaging in spiritual education and worship are among the most rewarded deeds during this sacred month in Azerbaijan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, and community. In Azerbaijan, these traditions are deeply integrated into the cultural fabric, promoting values of social solidarity and spiritual renewal across the country.
