The Main Customs Administration for Air Transport of the State Customs Committee has successfully prevented an attempt to illegally smuggle jewelry, medicines, and tobacco products into Azerbaijan, violating the country's customs legislation.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the State Customs Committee, the incident involved two Azerbaijani citizens arriving on a flight from Trabzon to Baku. During the inspection of their suitcases and hand luggage using a stationary X-ray machine, customs officers observed suspicious images on the monitor, prompting a comprehensive physical search.

The detailed inspection revealed 334 grams of gold jewelry, 1,200 units of unmarked cigarettes, and a significant quantity of medical supplies—including 2,264 tablets, 84 capsules, 47 vials, and 14 ampoules across eight different types of medication. The items were concealed within suitcases, hand luggage, and a baby stroller, and had not been declared to the customs authorities either in written or oral form. An investigation into the smuggling attempt is currently underway.

The State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its monitoring at international airports to combat the illegal trafficking of undeclared goods. Under Azerbaijani law, passengers are required to declare specific quantities of precious metals and commercial goods, and the failure to do so can result in administrative or criminal liability. This operation is part of a broader effort by the Republic of Azerbaijan to ensure border security and regulate the import of pharmaceutical and luxury goods.
