President Ilham Aliyev has approved the agreement on cooperation in the field of defense between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The head of state signed the relevant law on the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement, formalizing the military partnership between the two nations.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the document was originally signed on February 27, 2026, in Baku. The agreement aims to establish a comprehensive legal framework for bilateral cooperation in various defense sectors, including military education, technical exchange, and security consultations.
Azerbaijan has been steadily expanding its diplomatic and military-technical cooperation with African nations as part of its broader foreign policy strategy to diversify international partnerships. Ethiopia, as a major political hub in East Africa and the host of the African Union headquarters, represents a significant partner for Azerbaijan in enhancing South-South cooperation. This agreement is expected to facilitate closer ties between the defense ministries of both countries and contribute to regional stability through shared expertise.
