To mitigate passenger congestion during upcoming maintenance work on the Baku Metro, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) has announced the launch of six new express bus lines. These buses will operate in alignment with the metro's schedule, running daily from 06:00 to 00:00.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, which cited the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport's agency, AYNA, the decision follows the need to provide alternative transit solutions, particularly due to the temporary suspension of direct metro connections between the "28 May" and "Nizami" stations. The initiative includes the introduction of new express routes and the reinforcement of existing bus lines to ensure seamless mobility across the capital.
The newly established express routes are as follows:
- M1: Between "Elmlər Akademiyası" and "28 May" metro stations
- M2: Between "İnşaatçılar", "Nizami", and "28 May" metro stations
- M3: Between "20 Yanvar", "Nizami", and "28 May" metro stations
- M4: Between "20 Yanvar" and "Koroğlu" metro stations
- M5: Between "20 Yanvar" and "Gənclik" metro stations
- M6: Between "Elmlər Akademiyası" and "Gənclik" metro stations
In addition to these new lines, the frequency of buses on existing routes—including numbers 2, 6, 7A, 9, 10, 14, 17, 18, 26, 61, 65, 79, 85, 88, 88A, 93, 133, 165, 199, and 202—will be increased to reduce wait times. Passengers can track alternative routes and schedules via the "AYNA MaaS" mobile application. Furthermore, volunteers will be stationed at the "28 May", "20 Yanvar", "İnşaatçılar", and "Elmlər Akademiyası" metro stations to assist commuters throughout the project duration.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Baku Metro to modernize infrastructure and improve service reliability. By integrating bus and rail networks, the city aims to minimize the impact of essential maintenance on daily commuters and ensure the continued efficiency of public transportation in Baku.
