A popular beach in Argentina has been closed to the public following a series of aggressive piranha attacks that left dozens of swimmers injured.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing LADBible, that the incident prompted an immediate emergency response from local authorities. Lifeguard Alejandro Martin confirmed that 46 individuals required urgent medical assistance following the attacks.

The lifeguard noted that the injuries were significant, requiring the total depletion of three first-aid kits on-site. Victims suffered deep, bleeding lacerations to their arms and legs caused by the fish bites. Following the escalation of the attacks, lifeguards ordered all swimmers out of the water and raised red flags to signal extreme danger. Several victims, including both children and adults, were transported to hospital emergency departments for treatment. Hospital officials stated that the injured individuals had entered the water in areas where swimming was strictly prohibited.

Reports indicate that at least one victim suffered the loss of a finger during the frenzy. As the number of casualties rose, local authorities took the decisive step to completely close the beach to prevent further incidents. Piranha attacks in South American river systems and coastal lagoons often occur during periods of high temperatures or low water levels, which can increase the aggression of these predatory fish. Such events are periodically reported in the region during the summer season when human activity in the water increases.
