Security measures in Ankara have been elevated to the maximum level in anticipation of the NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ankara Police Department announced that a special security plan, codenamed "Operation Turquoise," has been implemented to ensure the safety of the summit. Checkpoints at the city's entry and exit points have tightened access controls, while large-scale inspections have been intensified across nine districts of the capital. Special police units have transitioned to a 24-hour duty schedule in areas designated as NATO operational zones.

The department stated that special forces, anti-narcotics units, and plainclothes officers are stationed at strategic locations to identify suspicious individuals and vehicles. Ankara Police Chief Maksut Yuksek is personally overseeing the security operations.

Authorities have also increased inspections in densely populated areas, including parks, cafes, entertainment centers, and hotels. Within this framework, raids have been conducted at 215 locations, 151 parks, and over 120 public catering facilities across nine districts, involving 39 teams and 450 personnel.

Furthermore, operations against illegal activities and individuals engaged in begging are ongoing, alongside special efforts to apprehend long-wanted suspects. As part of measures to prevent terrorist activities, 209 suspects have been detained, and investigative operations regarding these individuals are currently underway.

NATO summits serve as a critical platform for the alliance's 32 member states to discuss global security challenges, defense strategies, and geopolitical developments. Hosting such a high-level event requires rigorous security protocols to ensure the safety of international delegations and the stability of the host city.
