An employee of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) was killed in a heavy landmine explosion in the Fuzuli district on April 14.
The Operative Information Center-OMM was informed by ANAMA that the tragic incident occurred in the territory of Ashaghi Abdurrahmanli village. While performing his official duties, the agency specialist, Mughan Rafayil oglu Matili, born in 1995, fell victim to an anti-tank mine explosion.
The liberated territories of Azerbaijan, particularly the Garabagh and East Zangazur regions, remain heavily contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance following decades of occupation. Since the end of the 2020 conflict, the Republic of Azerbaijan has undertaken large-scale demining operations to ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons and the reconstruction of infrastructure in these areas. Despite these efforts, landmines continue to pose a significant threat to both demining specialists and civilians, with hundreds of casualties reported in the post-conflict period.
