The African Union (AU) has welcomed the peace agreement signed between the United States and Iran, characterizing it as a significant step toward ending military operations in the Middle East, reducing tensions, and ensuring sustainable peace.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this statement was released by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahamat Ali Youssouf.
Youssouf noted that the agreement demonstrates the effectiveness of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts. According to him, the deal could contribute to strengthening trust between states, enhancing regional stability, and expanding international cooperation.
"We hope that the agreements reached will pave the way for lasting peace, regional stability, and broader international cooperation," the AU Commission Chairperson emphasized.
Mahamat Ali Youssouf also reiterated the African Union's commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, stating that the organization is prepared to support all initiatives aimed at strengthening peace, cooperation, and mutual respect among nations.
The agreement between the US and Iran is expected to help de-escalate long-standing tensions in the Middle East. Under the terms of the deal, the parties have agreed to a 60-day ceasefire, during which they will discuss several critical issues, including Iran's nuclear program.
Analysts suggest that the agreement could also positively impact energy markets. The conflict in the region has recently led to increased fuel and transportation costs, contributing to inflationary pressures in several African nations. The African Union, an intergovernmental organization consisting of 55 member states across the continent, frequently advocates for diplomatic solutions to global conflicts to protect the economic interests of its member nations.
