US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss recent developments involving Iran and the Middle East.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the official website of the US Department of State, the discussion focused on regional stability and security cooperation.
In an official statement, the Secretary of State emphasized that attacks on Turkey's sovereign territory are unacceptable and expressed the full support of the United States for Ankara. The parties also reaffirmed their commitment to the continuous strengthening of bilateral relations between the two NATO allies. This high-level communication follows an incident on March 4, when the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that a ballistic missile launched from Iran, which crossed through Iraqi and Syrian airspace before entering Turkish airspace, was intercepted by NATO air and missile defense forces. Debris from the intercepted missile reportedly fell in the Hatay province, though no injuries were recorded.
The incident underscores the growing volatility in the Middle East and the strategic importance of the security partnership between Washington and Ankara. As regional tensions escalate, the United States continues to coordinate closely with its allies to maintain regional balance. Under the administration of US President Donald Trump, the US has repeatedly signaled its intent to bolster defense ties with key regional partners to counter threats to sovereign territories and international security corridors.
