US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss recent developments involving Iran and the Middle East.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the official website of the US Department of State, the discussion focused on regional stability and security cooperation.
In an official statement, the Secretary of State emphasized that attacks on Turkey's sovereign territory are unacceptable and expressed the full support of the United States for Ankara. The parties also reaffirmed their commitment to the continuous strengthening of bilateral relations between the two NATO allies. This high-level communication follows an incident on March 4, when the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that a ballistic missile launched from Iran, which crossed through Iraqi and Syrian airspace before entering Turkish airspace, was intercepted by NATO air and missile defense forces. Debris from the intercepted missile reportedly fell in the Hatay province, though no injuries were recorded.
