Law enforcement agencies in Georgia have detained 55 foreign nationals during a large-scale operation targeting illegal migration across the country.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the press service of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the measures were carried out by the ministry's Migration Department. The operation resulted in the identification and detention of individuals found to be in violation of the country's residency and immigration regulations.
The detainees include citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Ivory Coast, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. Authorities reported that inspections were conducted at various residential and workplaces where the foreign nationals were located. Following the investigations, it was confirmed that the individuals had breached Georgia's immigration laws. They have since been placed in temporary migration detention centers as deportation procedures are finalized.
Georgia has significantly intensified its efforts to combat illegal migration in recent months. The country's parliament has moved to tighten immigration legislation, simplifying the legal procedures for the search and deportation of foreign nationals who overstay their visas or lack proper documentation. These enforcement actions are part of a broader strategy to regulate migration flows and maintain border security, with official reports on the removal of foreign citizens now being released on a monthly basis.
