Police officers in the Absheron district of Azerbaijan have seized more than 16 kilograms of various narcotic substances during a series of targeted operations. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported that the crackdown aimed to disrupt illegal drug trafficking networks operating within the region.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the Operative Information Center-OMM, several individuals were detained during the operations. Among those arrested was Orkhan Aliyev, a previously convicted individual, from whom 3.7 kilograms of heroin and methamphetamine were seized. Other suspects include Elchin Mehdiyev, found with 5.843 kilograms of marijuana, heroin, and methamphetamine, along with 100 methadone pills; Emil Abdullayev with 2.15 kilograms of heroin; and Gulzada Aliyeva with 2.2 kilograms of heroin and methamphetamine. Additionally, Mehdi Rzayev, Gahir Garayev, and Parvana Safarova were found in possession of a combined 2.763 kilograms of narcotics.
Drug trafficking remains a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies in Azerbaijan, which sits at a strategic crossroads between Europe and Asia. The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to intensify its efforts to combat the illegal drug trade through both preventive measures and active operations. These recent arrests in Absheron are part of a broader national strategy to safeguard public health and security by dismantling local distribution chains and preventing the spread of illicit substances across the country. Investigations into the network are currently ongoing.
