Azerbaijan's representative in the UEFA Conference League, Zira, has concluded its campaign in the tournament following the second leg of the second qualifying round.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Baku-based club hosted Estonia's Paide Linnameeskond at the Sumgait City Stadium. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Zira took an early lead in the 5th minute through a goal by Eren Aydin. However, the visitors leveled the score in the 71st minute when Henri Anier found the back of the net. Since Paide had secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg, the Estonian side advanced to the next round, while Rashad Sadigov's team was eliminated from the competition.
The UEFA Conference League, introduced by UEFA in 2021, serves as the third tier of European club football, designed to give clubs from smaller or lower-ranked associations more opportunities to compete in continental tournaments. For Zira, participating in European qualifiers remains a crucial part of the club's development and its effort to gain international experience against diverse European opponents.
