Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has described his recent discussions with US President Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as “positive.”
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the meeting took place during a break in Chisinau. The talks focused on resuming the diplomatic process aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“It was a very positive conversation. I am grateful for their readiness to work as actively as possible in the coming weeks to restore diplomacy aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine,” Zelenskyy stated.
While acknowledging that global attention is currently focused on the situation surrounding Iran, the Ukrainian President emphasized the critical importance of keeping the issue of peace in Europe at the top of the international agenda. Zelenskyy added that potential scenarios were discussed with the US envoys within the framework of the G7 summit and other international events, where the Ukrainian side presented its position.
Furthermore, the head of state noted that he held a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, focusing on the coordination of discussions held with US representatives and the planning of subsequent steps.
Reports indicate that negotiations on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, initiated by Witkoff and Kushner, have slowed somewhat against the backdrop of the US focus on issues related to Iran. Despite this, the parties are discussing a potential visit to Kyiv in the coming weeks to further advance the diplomatic track.
The ongoing diplomatic efforts led by US representatives reflect the complex geopolitical landscape, where the US administration seeks to balance regional crises in the Middle East with the long-standing conflict in Eastern Europe.
