Etienne Berchtold has been appointed as the new Ambassador of Austria to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Austrian Embassy in Baku provided this information to the Operative Information Center-OMM.
"Etienne Berchtold is expected to begin his duties as the head of the Austrian diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan at the end of August," the embassy emphasized.
Prior to his appointment to Azerbaijan, Berchtold served as the Austrian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, a position he held since August 2022. His extensive diplomatic background includes serving as the press spokesperson for foreign and European policy matters in the Austrian Federal Chancellery, working under former Federal Chancellors Karl Nehammer, Alexander Schallenberg, and Sebastian Kurz. Berchtold holds a degree in law.
The appointment of a new ambassador marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between Baku and Vienna. Austria and Azerbaijan have historically maintained cooperation in various sectors, including energy, culture, and economic development, with diplomatic ties serving as a cornerstone for ongoing political dialogue.
