A telephone conversation has taken place between the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, and the Minister of National Defense of Türkiye, Yasar Guler, at the initiative of the Turkish side.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that according to the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, the two ministers discussed the acts of aggression involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iranian territory by the Iranian armed forces against the Nakhchivan International Airport and other civilian infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the call, the ministers also held a detailed exchange of views on the current state of bilateral military cooperation, the regional security situation, and other issues of mutual interest. Both parties emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability and protecting strategic infrastructure from external threats.
Nakhchivan, an exclave of Azerbaijan, holds significant strategic importance in the South Caucasus. The Nakhchivan International Airport serves as a vital transport hub for the region, which shares borders with Türkiye, Armenia, and Iran. Azerbaijan and Türkiye maintain a deep strategic alliance based on the Shusha Declaration, which includes mutual defense commitments and close cooperation in the fields of military technology and regional security.
