The Japanese government is reportedly aiming to gradually normalize relations with Russia. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media reports, this initiative was highlighted by Shoji Nishida, a lawmaker from Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
The push for diplomatic recalibration is driven by the assessment that the United States no longer maintains the same level of unilateral global dominance it once held. Nishida emphasized the need for a pragmatic evaluation of current geopolitical realities.
"America is no longer capable of controlling the entire world. Recognizing this reality, we must take steps toward expanding friendly relations and mutual support between Russia and Japan, even if it cannot be achieved immediately," Nishida stated.
According to the lawmaker, official Tokyo should move away from policies of hostility toward Russia. He underscored that Russia remains one of Japan's closest neighbors geographically, making stable relations vital for regional security and economic interests.
This development follows recent reports that Japan secured an extension from the United States regarding exemptions for the import of Russian energy resources. This move underscores Tokyo's strategic interest in maintaining essential economic ties with Moscow to ensure its own energy security, highlighting the complex balancing act Japan faces in its foreign policy amidst shifting global alliances.
