The New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) has issued a strong condemnation of the drone attacks launched by Iran against Nakhchivan, describing the incident as a treacherous provocation that violates international legal norms and the spirit of bilateral relations.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the ruling party released an official statement regarding the strikes, which have escalated military-political tensions in the region.

The party noted that on March 5, Iranian armed forces utilized unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to target the Nakhchivan International Airport and other civilian infrastructure. These acts of aggression have caused serious concern and outrage among the members of YAP and the broader Azerbaijani public. The statement emphasized that one drone struck the terminal building of the Nakhchivan International Airport, while another landed near a school in Shekarabad village, resulting in injuries to four people.

"Independent Azerbaijan, which has created new realities by restoring its territorial integrity and absolute sovereignty, has always remained committed to the principle of good neighborliness," the party's statement read. "The constructive policy and peace diplomacy implemented by Azerbaijan today, taking into account national interests and global challenges, are aimed at building trust within the context of reliable security and multifaceted cooperation in the region."

The statement further asserted that as the leading state of the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan has strengthened its military-strategic potential and is fully capable of preventing any threat directed at national or regional security. The party demanded an official apology to the people of Azerbaijan and an immediate end to biased propaganda and all provocative attempts against the country.

Nakhchivan, an exclave of the Republic of Azerbaijan, holds significant strategic importance and shares borders with Iran, Armenia, and Türkiye. The Nakhchivan International Airport serves as a vital transport hub for the region, which has been under a blockade by Armenia for decades. This latest escalation follows a period of complex diplomatic relations between Baku and Tehran, during which Azerbaijan has consistently maintained its sovereign right to secure its borders and protect its civilian population from external threats.
