Earthquake hits Caspian Sea

An earthquake has occurred in the Caspian Sea.

The Republican Seismic Survey Center of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences reported that the tremors were recorded at 20:45 local time, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.

According to the center, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.5. The epicenter of the seismic activity was located at a depth of 32 kilometers below the seabed.

The Caspian Sea region is a seismically active zone, characterized by frequent low to moderate intensity tremors due to the complex tectonic movements in the Caucasian and Central Asian plates. Azerbaijan, situated on the western shore of the Caspian, maintains a comprehensive network of seismic monitoring stations to track such activities and ensure public safety. No damage or casualties were reported following this specific event.
