An earthquake has occurred in the Caspian Sea, according to official seismic monitoring data.
The Bureau of Earthquake Research of the Republican Seismic Survey Center informed the Operative Information Center-OMM that the tremor was recorded at 13:57 local time. The earthquake had a magnitude of 3.1 and originated at a depth of 13 km.
The Caspian Sea region is characterized by moderate seismic activity due to its location at the junction of several tectonic plates. Azerbaijan, situated on the western shore of the Caspian, frequently monitors such underwater tremors through the Republican Seismic Survey Center to ensure public safety and the integrity of regional infrastructure. While minor quakes of this magnitude are common in the basin, they are typically not felt on land and do not result in any damage or casualties.
