US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf will lead their respective delegations in high-level talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Iran's ISNA news agency, the discussions follow a significant diplomatic breakthrough. Iran, the United States, and their allies reached an agreement for a two-week ceasefire effective from the night of April 8, 2026. As part of the arrangement, Tehran has committed to ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, subject to technical constraints and coordination with the Iranian Armed Forces.

The meeting comes at the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who invited the US and Iranian delegations to convene in Islamabad on April 10. Pakistan has frequently acted as a diplomatic intermediary in regional conflicts, leveraging its strategic position to facilitate dialogue between Western powers and Middle Eastern nations. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most vital maritime chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passes daily, making its security a matter of global economic stability.

Under the administration of US President Donald Trump, Washington has maintained a policy of strategic engagement aimed at regional de-escalation. These talks in the Pakistani capital represent a critical step in addressing long-standing maritime security concerns and the broader implementation of the recently established ceasefire protocols.
