Police officers in Sumgait have detained an individual for committing acts of disrespect against the State Flag of Azerbaijan. The 27-year-old suspect, identified as Alim Gasimzade, was apprehended following the incident in the city.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) told Operative Information Center-OMM that legal liability measures have been initiated against Gasimzade. Officials noted that the suspect's mental health status is being taken into consideration as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
Under the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Flag is a sacred symbol of national sovereignty, and any public act of desecration or disrespect is subject to criminal or administrative penalties. Sumgait, located on the Caspian coast, is Azerbaijan's third-largest city and a major industrial hub. The protection of state symbols is strictly enforced across the country to maintain national dignity and constitutional order.
