At least 11 people have been killed and 18 others injured as heavy torrential rains and powerful storms swept through various regions of Pakistan.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Dawn newspaper, that the natural disaster has caused significant destruction in residential areas and led to the closure of major transportation routes.

According to rescue teams, the fatalities and injuries were primarily caused by structural collapses and storm-related accidents. Emergency services are currently working to provide medical assistance to the 18 individuals who sustained various degrees of bodily injuries.

Local authorities noted that the severe weather conditions have uprooted trees and inflicted serious damage on regional infrastructure. Ongoing precipitation has triggered multiple landslides, forcing the closure of several key highways and disrupting the movement of vehicles. In the Swat district, several rivers have overflowed their banks, leading to flash floods, while rising water levels in the city of Mingora have caused widespread concern among the local population. Additionally, heavy snowfall and avalanches have blocked the road between Kalam and Mahodand Lake, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.

Pakistan is frequently vulnerable to extreme weather patterns during the monsoon and transitional seasons, which often lead to devastating floods and landslides. In recent years, the frequency and intensity of such events have increased, highlighting the region's vulnerability to climate-driven natural disasters. Meteorologists have issued further warnings that rainfall is expected to continue across the province, with heavy snow forecast for high-altitude mountainous areas.
