The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of the Republic of Azerbaijan approved a draft law on amendments to the Customs Code in the first reading during its plenary session held today.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the new legislation mandates that for imported goods subject to technical regulations and referenced standards, relevant conformity certificates, declarations of conformity, and recognized foreign conformity documents must be submitted to customs authorities. These documents will be subject to verification during the customs clearance process, in accordance with the Law on Technical Regulation.
These requirements will apply to imported goods only two years after both the relevant technical regulations and the referenced standards have entered into force, allowing businesses a transition period to adapt to the new compliance framework.
The Customs Code serves as the primary legal framework governing the movement of goods across the borders of Azerbaijan. Amendments to this code are frequently introduced to align national trade practices with international standards, enhance transparency, and streamline the import-export process for entrepreneurs operating within the country.
